God told Joshua in the book of Joshua 1:8 to meditate on God’s word day and night. The day could mean the whole of the day and night could mean the whole of the night.
God did not tell Joshua to meditate on his law in the morning and in the evening. But day and night, meaning throughout the day and the night.
Our Lord Jesus Christ also wants believers to pray without ceasing. Besides, without ceasing could mean at all times.
Christians are instructed to be pre-occupied with the word all times. These commandments that I present to you this day are to be upon your hearts.
Label them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your house and on your gates
However, if the word of God is accorded the same first priority in our lives. The way Moses instructed Israel as a condition for success in Canaan.
many of us might not have coped with it. We will see it so difficult to practice. Truly, our flesh is our problem. Flesh will always resist the word of God.
Flesh likes to enjoy the glory and pleasures of this world. That is one of the reasons why many Believers engage themselves more on carnal things.
Instead of spiritual things. They are busy lusting after the things of this life. Colossians 3:2 instructed us to set our mind on things above, not on earthly things.
Many preachers have also warned Christians to desist from fixing their mind on earthly things. Their warnings have fallen on deaf ears, why?
Because they lack the power to remove their minds from earthly things to heavenly blessings.
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in him. 1 John 2:5.
Many believers know this scripture and yet they are finding it difficult to obey it. Because the devil forced them to love the world, and they lack the power to resist him.
For all that is in the world the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life comes not from the Father but from the world 1 John 2:16.
However, lusting after the things of this world is what God condemns. Some people deliberately disobey God to make sure they have the worldly pleasures.
Many Christians are been enslaved by the devil in this regard. But when we are controlled supernaturally, we can then resist the devil.
It is not by might nor by power but by my spirit. James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Many Christians quote the “B” part of the above-mentioned scripture. “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”.
Leaving behind the principles that should be considered before one can command the devil to flee. The part “A” which says “Submit yourselves, then, to God”.
The condition for resisting the devil is submission to God; thus loving Him and obeying Him. We must humble ourselves to God and be prepared to obey and do his word.
But if we fail to regard or obey Him, by resisting the word of God. Then the enemy will have his way in our lives and resist us.
He that commits sin is of the devil because the devil has been sinning from the beginning 1 John 3:8.
Anyone who commits sin automatically become of the devil. Because you can not be loyal to God and at the same time to the devil.
If we believe that the word of God and His promises are true. We should also believe that “He who commits sin is of the devil.
Our inability to take direction from God’s word will make us lose battles. But if we sincerely confess our sins and forsake them.
God commanded Joshua not to allow the book of the law depart from his mouth and that he should confess it day and night.
I believe it was because Joshua obeyed this commandment strictly. That was why he could summon enough faith and courage to defeat his enemies.
Joshua was the only man born of a woman who could command the sun and the moon to stand still, till the nation of Israel avenged itself on its enemies.
The faith that stopped the rotation of the earth is a strong faith. The Bible recorded that there has never been a day like it before.
Therefore, in this wilderness journey, we are required to use the same war strategy that gave Joshua victory to enter Canaan.
We should obey our chief commander by confessing His word regularly. If we fail to confess it regularly, we are disobeying.
And the devil can exploit the opportunity and put us in a tight corner. Because it is he the devil that is commanding us not to obey God so that he will have an advantage over us.
The word of God says “you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free”. Many believers are fond of running from one place to another looking for miracles.
