Why You Should Discover Your True Self

Why You Should Discover Your True Self

Who are you and why are you here? It is a question every right-thinking human being should ask him or herself. Most time we are being told what other people think we are.

And that’s why it is so important for us to know ourselves. Many would answer this question by giving their name without giving it enough thought.

However, on a deeper reflection, do you really understand who you are? Do you really know why you are here on earth and what you are called to do?

We live in a world where the majority of people living in it are trying very hard to conform to what someone else wants them to be making them abandon their real calling.

It is often so because many of us fail to realize that which we are called to do. It happens at many levels of life.

For instance, the television stations are always bombarding us with images of how we should look and dress, what we should eat and drink.

What car we should drive and even what kind of person we should marry. How we should live on campus, Some even go as far as telling us how to fall in love!

Most times we focus on things around us to help us define who we are. In fact, the truth about it is that the majority of people have no sense of their identity.

Apart from the nice clothes they wear, the luxury car they drive, the mansion they live in, the beautiful wife or husband they married, and so on.

Some may even think that the image of their face and body defines who they are. Now think about this, what if you were to be removed from your body.

Would you still know who you are? It may sound strange or unusual, I know, but understand that man is a spirit; he lives in a body and has a soul.

Your body is simply a means of expressing yourself and interacting with your physical environment and not really who you are because you are more than that.

In fact, who you are cannot be seen, touched, smelt, heard, or tasted.

Your senses cannot tell you who you are neither can things around you defined who you are. But by the things within you and not outside of you.

YOUR TRUE SELF. Yes, I mean your true identity lies within you.

You may have defined who you are based on your thoughts, values, principles, and beliefs. No problem it is okay to have material things and all.

But they should not be your sense of self because they are just things that are there to make lives easier.

That you were suddenly homeless today or you are passing through difficulties or challenges of life would not change who you are as a person or what you would still be.

What is the importance of all this, you might ask?

So you are sacrificing something when you go through life blindly. Conforming to everything you sacrifice your true potential and purpose

Which you can only fulfill when you truly understand yourself. How to discover the real you, the answer lies within, look within yourself, not without.

For everything begins and ends with your thoughts. When people failed to understand or to know themselves. Their abilities, their frailties, and even their real virtues regret and sorrow is inevitable.

Most of us go almost all the way through life as complete strangers to ourselves, “yes this is true”. Because we lack an understanding of who we are.

Without which we are unable to know what we are capable of achieving in life. In the days of slavery in Europe and America, this was well understood.

Black people were forced to change their names to Western names so they would not remember who they really were.

They were banned from knowing how to read or write. That should make the lights flash in someone’s head.

The reason this was done was that their masters knew that if they knew how to read. They would discover many things, not only about the world around them but about themselves.

Their minds would be stretched to new levels of understanding. Reading is a powerful means of discovering who you are.

If you read the right books and other material. You will gain a deeper understanding of others as well as yourself.

Unfortunately, there are many who are in a self-imposed prison of ignorance even till today. The books are all around them but they can’t read.

No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading. Or be ready to surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance”.

Choose not to live in ignorance about who you are and what you can do. But decide today to discover more about yourself and to start on the journey of self-discovery.

I recommend you to read anything readable. Such as novels, magazines, newspapers, and most of it all the HOLY BIBLE the word of God.

Without it, you may never know who you really are and will not impact your generation.

Remember that it’s only by much searching and mining are gold and diamonds obtained.

And no man can be able to find every truth connected with his being. If he refuses to dig deep into the mine of his soul”.
