Uchenna And His Blind Father

Uchenna And His Blind Father

The future and destiny of every individual are in his or her hands, Therefore, have the courage and determination that you can still make it in this life. Even when it seems so difficult.

There lived a young teenager called Uchenna, in a certain community called Amaezu Odeke Ajima in Ebonyi State Nigeria.

Who lived alone with his blind father named Ogenyi. And the two of them had a very good and special relationship.

Uchenna was a footballer who was always kept on the bench by the coach. But despite being on the bench always.

The father believed in him and will always come to the stands to encourage and cheer him. This young boy was the smallest in the class when he entered secondary school.

His father continued to encourage him. But also advised him to make another choice of career if he wishes. that he did not have to play football if he didn’t want to.

But the young boy loved football and decided to continue with it. He was determined to give out his best at every practice and hoping to be giving an opportunity to play one day.

Throughout his junior classes, he never missed a practice or a game but remained a bench warmer all through three years.

But his faithful, caring, and loving father was always in the stands, always with words of encouragement for him.

When Uchenna entered into the senior class, he was never discouraged or thought of abandoning his football ambition.

Many believed he was just making fool of himself, that he will never make it. But in him, he believed in himself and did not allow peoples thought to discourage him.

A day came when the club hired a new coach, who after their training admitted to Uchenna that he’s a good player.

And has always put his heart and soul into every practice, and at the same time, has provided the other members of the team with the spirit and hustle they really needed.

But wondered why the former coach always kept him on the bench and has never given him the opportunity to showcase his ability in the field.

Finally, he encouraged him to continue and promised to give him playing times.

The news that he had been recognized as a good player which no one has ever said or mentioned to him. It thrilled him so much that he rushed to the nearest phone booth and called his father.

His father shared his excitement also with him on the phone. In his final year in secondary school, during the senior football season.

As he was about leaving the field after practice, shortly, the coach called him Uchenna my boy get ready you are going to play in tomorrow’s match.

The young boy was shocked and astonished that he was silent for minutes and went home without uttering any word.

When he reached home he told his father what the coach told him with tears running down his cheeks. And he said to the father so I later made it, after many years of waiting.

The father gently put his arm around his shoulder and said to him, son life is never a bed of rose’s, always remember this my word, winners never quit, and quitters never win.

Thank God you didn’t quit. And finally, the father said to him, how I wish I could watch you play. But as you can see nature has denied me that opportunity.

But nevertheless, I can see you right inside my heart. On that fateful day, when Uchenna was about leaving for the match.

The father said to him, my son, as you go for this match I want you to perform excellently. May God Almighty help and be with you, and he echoed “AMEN” and left.

Immediately he left, the father who has been blind for many years regained his sight. And people ran after him and broke the good news to him.

He ran back and discovered it was true, and he said to the father am happy you will see me play today, yes said the father. And he left for the match.

When they came to the field Uchenna was also kept on the bench as usual despite being promised to play.

As the match started after ten minutes Uchenna’s team were two goals down, and he was bittered on his inside.

In the second half, it was still two goals against Uchenna’s team, After some minutes the coach went to him and said, can you do anything to change this game?

“I will try my best,” said Uchenna. All right, I trust you the coach said: “You can go in.”

Not too long, the coach, the players, and everyone in the stands could not believe their eyes. This little unknown boy, who had never played before, was doing everything right.

The opposing team could not stop him. He ran, he passed, blocked and tackled like a star within a short time his team began to triumph.

He scored two goals within ten minutes of his play, making the scoreline 2-2. In the closing seconds of the game.

This kid intercepted a pass and ran all the way for the winning touchdown and scored the winning goal making it 3-2. The fans broke loose.

His teammates lifted him onto their shoulders. Such cheering you’ve never heard or received all your life! The coach then came to him and said.

Boy, I can’t believe it. You were fantastic in the match! Tell me what got into you? How did you do it? Uchenna looked at the coach, with tears running down his cheeks.

And said, “Well, you knew my dad was blind?” and has always been here to encourage me, but today was special.

Because today was the first day he could see me play. And I wanted to show him I could do it.

Uchenna was giving a scholarship award by the organizers of the tournament to any school of his choice. And was also taking to abroad by a high rated football team to continue his football ambition.

Reflection: courage and determination

In all you do in this life understand that no matter how hard or difficult things may look like in the beginning, or how bad life might have treated you.

What people might have said against you, or the hatred one has towards you. It can never stop you from hitting your destiny.

For destiny can only be delayed but can never be denied. Therefore, always have the courage that you can still make it in life.
